NOAA Central Library Databases     CCEHBR Databases

These databases, IP specific and available to NOAA/NOS/CCEHBR Oxford Laboratory research staff, provide keyword access to abstracts and/or full-text of journal articles and to electronic books covering the biological and physical sciences.

AGRICOLA: This is the online database created by the National Agricultural Library covering all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines. Coverage: Articles: 1979--

ASFA: (Available NOAA-wide) Aquatic Sciences & Fisheries Databases: Indexes journals, reports, and conference proceedings on the science and technology of marine, freshwater, and estuarine organisms and environments. Updated monthly. Coverage: 1971--

BioMed Central: Over 100 open access journals covering all areas of biology and medicine. Updated as published. Coverage: Varies

BioOne Abstracts and Indexes: (Available NOAA-wide) BioOne is an indexed and fully-searchable collection of abstracts developed by the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), the University of Kansas, the Greater Western Library Alliance and Allen Press. It provides a unique aggregation of nearly 100 high-impact bioscience research journals from around 70 publishers.

Conference Papers Index: (Available NOAA-wide) Provides citations to papers and poster sessions presented at major scientific meetings around the world. Subject emphasis since 1995 has been in the life sciences, environmental sciences and the aquatic sciences, while older material also covers physics, engineering and materials science. Updated bimonthly. Coverage: 1982-

Directory of Open Access Journals: This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. As of 2007 there are 2,727 journals included in the directory. Updated as published. Coverage: Varies.

E&E News (Available NOAA-wide) Provides access to environmental, energy, and climate news and policy important on the Hill through five publications: Climate Wire, Energy Wire, Greenwire, OnPoint, Evironment and Energy Daily, and E&E News PM. Coverage includes the Washington policy and political scene, as well as national and global issues.

E-Print Network: Provides access to deep-web searching and browsing by discipline of more than 31,000 web sites and databases worldwide, containing more than 5 million full-text scholarly and professional works in the basic and applied sciences. This gateway is hosted by the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Scienctific and Technical Information (OSTI).

GreenFile: GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.

HeinOnline: (Available NOAA-wide) Online access to legal periodical content in the original page-image (PDF) format. Includes Law journals, Legislative Histories, American Law Institute library, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal Register, Foreign & International Law Resources, Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS), International Law Association Reports, Political Science journals, Treaties, and more.

HighWire Press: HighWire Press at Stanford University develops and maintains the Web versions of important journals in biomedicine and other disciplines.  As of June 27, 2007 Highwire offers 1,695,130 free full-text articles.  Updated as published, Coverage: Varies.

InCites: (Available NOAA-wide) InCites is a customized, web-based research evaluation tool that allows you to analyze institutional productivity and benchmark your output against peers worldwide. With customized citation data, global metrics, and multidimensional profiles on the leading research institutions, InCites gives comprehensive insight into your institution's performance. And with robust visualization and reporting tools, you can create and share reports quickly and easily. To access, go to Web of Science. Register your own user id and password - select drop down arrow in upper right hand menu bar ext to "Sign In." Once youlogin select link for InCites in upper left hand menu bar.

Journal Citation Reports Science Edition: (Available NOAA-wide) Journal Citation Reports allows you to evaluate and compare journals using citation data drawn from over 5,900 scholarly and technical journals from more than 5,000 publishers in over 60 countries. It includes virtually all areas of science and technology.

JSTOR: the Scholarly Journal Archive: (Available NOAA-wide) Complete full-text archives of core scholarly journals, some dating from the 1600s. Search by topic, keywords, titles, authors and dates. NOAA subscribes to these JSTOR collections of titles: Arts & Sciences I; Arts & Sciences VII; Biological Sciences; Business; Health & General Sciences; Mathematics & Statistics; 19th Century British Pamphlets (through June 30. 2009); Public Health Reports. (You can view titles in specific collections or search by disciplines) (Available NOAA-wide) offers legal information. NOAA eBook Collection: (Available NOAA-wide) Features more than 300 online book titles, including 200 Information Technology (IT) books on subjects including HTML, XHTML, XML, Visual Basic.Net, CGI, Dreamweaver, PHP, Apache, MySQL Web Development, and more.

Oceanic Abstracts: (Available NOAA-wide) Indexes journals covering marine biology and physical oceanography, fisheries, aquaculture, non-living resources, meteorology and geology, plus environmental, technological, and legislative topics. Updated monthly. Coverage: 1981-

PubMed/Medline and Medical Databases: National Library of Medicine's bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the pre clinical sciences.  Updated daily.  Coverage: 1966--

Toxline: (Available NOAA-wide) Produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, provides bibliographic citations and abstracts from the care journal literature in toxicology from 1999 to the present.

Water Resoources Abstracts (Available NOAA-wide) Provides summaries of the world's technical and scientific literature on water-related topics covering the characteristics, conservation, control, pollution, treatment, use and management of water resources.

Web of Science-Science Citation Index Expanded: (Available NOAA-wide) Indexes over 5,800 leading international scientific journals, provides author, cited reference and keyword searching, and provides links to the original full-text if the library has a subscription. Current subscription covers the years 1984-present. PLEASE NOTE: this log-in link provides access to both Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, and free ISI databases.
